Painter Ljubica Cuca Sokić is the daughter of Manojlo Sokić (1887-1941), the first owner and editor-in-chief of the Belgrade newspaper Pravda, and his wife Ruža, née Kuzmanović. She attended high school in Belgrade, where her drawing teacher was Zora Petrović. She was taught painting by professors Beta Vukanović, Ljuba Ivanović, Jovan Bijelić and Ivan Radović. Ljubica Cuca Sokić worked and exhibited in Paris in the years from 1936 to 1939. After returning from Paris, she exhibited her works independently for the first time in 1939 in the Belgrade pavilion of Cvijeta Zuzorić. Ljubica Cuca Sokić is one of the founders of the artistic group "Desetoro". She was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade from 1948 to 1972. In 1968, she became a corresponding member of SANU, and from 1978 she was a regular member. In addition to painting, she illustrated children's books and magazines, as well as making sketches for films. Her painting is described as intimate. At first, she painted still lifes, landscapes, figures and portraits. Later, she tended towards simplification of forms, geometrization and moderate abstraction. She occasionally used collage techniques and experimental materials. She died on January 8, 2009 in Belgrade and was buried on January 13 at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
